About Darryl Perry
"The Miracle Man: The Man Behind the Foundation: Darryl Perry Story: Flat Lined"
Proud University of Florida Graduate, Darryl Perry, was a member of the Florida Gators football team as a full back where he blocked for the all-star leading NFL Dallas Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith (Smith is a life-long family friend).
Darryl was a successful financial advisor, CEO of Wealth Management Advisors, a motivational speaker, and a regular speaker for the University of Florida Gator Football program and on the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Darryl has received numerous honors and awards over the years for his football athleticism and dedication to the community. He was a board member of a number of charitable organizations, including the Ronald McDonald House and Guardian Care Convalescent Center, which benefited from the annual Darryl Perry Guardian Care Classic. Darryl is currently a board member at the prestigious University Club of Orlando.
The former University of Florida football player married his college sweetheart, has three kids and excelled in a career as a successful businessman and community leader. At the age of forty in the prime of his life, Darryl couldn't have asked for more. But after enjoying dinner with some friends on March 15, 2007, he went to bed and in the middle of the night physically died. "I saw him die," said his wife Nicky. "I saw him take that last breath where his whole body deflated and the breath sounded...I can't even explain it." Darryl suffered a serious brain-related illness called cerebral hypoxia. His brain was deprived of oxygen for well over 7 minutes. Despite administration of CPR by his wife and paramedics, Darryl remained brain dead and comatose for almost three weeks.
While in a coma, an outpouring of humanity, empathy, prayers, and support for Darryl was perpetuated. His good friend, Emmitt Smith had just won the show Dancing with the Stars. He immediately rushed to the hospital to be with Darryl and his family. The National Champion University of Florida Gators head football coach, Urban Meyer, also a long time family friend, immediately rushed to the hospital (along with several Florida Gators football team members) as well as a host of other political, celebrity and other well-wishers who knew Darryl through his professional and charity fundraiser initiatives.
His prognosis was grim, with physicians recommending that his wife remove him from life support. However, with drive, determination and strong faith, Darryl Perry miraculously woke up…cheating death and exceeding all possible odds for survival.
Darryl Perry in the Media
In November 2007, Orlando's Fox 35 News reporter Lauren LaPonzina did a provocative story on the Miracle Man. She wrote:
Darryl Perry has done something few people can say; he's died and come
back to life again.
The former University of Florida football player married his college
sweetheart, had three kids and a career as a successful investment banker.
At the age of forty in the prime of his life, Perry couldn't have asked
for more. But after enjoying dinner with some friends this past March 15th
he went to bed and in the middle of the night he died
