In
2003, the philanthropic arm of LBS Publications (dba Onyx
Magazine) was formed under the name LBS Foundation
for the purpose of making a more meaningful impact in its
giving back to the community.
The thrust of the Foundation is education and health initiatives.
In the health category, our major focus is sickle cell disease,
a genetic blood disorder found predominantly among African
Americans and other people of color. It is frequently the
cause of death among children.
Because children who have SICKLE
CELL ANEMIA are restricted from enjoying
a normal active childhood, this organization is committed
to providing an unforgettable opportunity for these young
victims––a session at Boggy Creek Camp, near Orlando,
Florida. According to Terry Hamilton, Major Gifts Officer
at Boggy Creek, sickle cell is the most under-funded disease
group at the Camp. Children who have sickle cell anemia need
help! We will contribute to this need through revenue generated
from the annual Onyx Awards.

The
Onyx Awards, our premiere event and major source of
fundraising, was created in an attempt to help LBS
Foundation Incorporated become a more proactive force
in the state of Florida. Blue
Cross and Blue Shield of Florida has
been title sponsor since its inception. Sponsorships
are always welcome in support of this
event.
At this prestigious annual production that rivals
major award shows, guests from throughout the state
gather to honor proactive individuals who make remarkable
strides in their committment to making a positive
difference in their respective fields and communities.
In addition, corporations are recognized for their
demonstration of diversity in the workplace and in
its community outreach programs. View
photos from previous years' shows.
The
Onyx Magazine Community Awards (OMCA)
is a subsidiary of the annual statewide Onyx Awards,
and was created to guarantee complete Florida statewide
participation. Winners from the different locations
around the state are automatically eligible candidates
for nomination for the prestigious Onyx Awards. |
